Good stuff man, you are right! We need to start in the beginning, and this thing about shifting from the “purple elephant” to the “red zebra” and so on, is just cosmetics. We need to have our heart set straight. Only God can do this for us, actually, i think, only the Blood of Jesus. I find that receiving the sacrament, also going to confession, helps alot with spiritual struggles.
